Is your desire to have a more Christ-centered home? If so, you’ve come to the right place.
Creating a sanctuary of peace and love for your family is a noble and fulfilling endeavor, but it is also one that requires continuous effort and dedication. Much like you, I strive daily to make my home more Christ-centered, and I have come to realize that this is not a goal that is achieved once and for all. It is an ongoing journey, with some days feeling like triumphs and others like struggles.
However, by consistently implementing certain principles, my family and I have experienced a transformation in our home environment. We have found it to be a place filled with more kindness, laughter, and a profound sense of peace.
In this blog post, I will share the tips and practices that have helped us along this path, with the hope that they can assist you in creating a Christ-centered home as well.
Display Reminders of Christ
Creating a Christ-centered home involves intentional choices that reflect your faith and remind you and your guests of the importance of Jesus Christ in your life.
One powerful way to achieve this is by displaying visual reminders of Christ throughout your home. These can serve as constant symbols of your commitment to follow Him, profoundly influencing daily decisions and offering comfort during challenging times.
For example, a cherished picture of Christ hanging in the living room can be a source of peace and strength. When facing temptations or trials, looking at this image can remind you of the unwavering love and support from your Savior, helping you to remain steadfast in your faith.
Visitors to your home can also feel this sense of serenity and may be inspired by your display of devotion. Personal anecdotes and positive feedback from guests further underscore the impact of these visual reminders.
To help you start, I’ve included links to some of my favorite Christ-centered décor pieces that have enriched my home and can do the same for yours. The picture below of Christ looking out over Jerusalem is a new addition to our living room and I love it!

Engage in Practices that Welcome the Holy Spirit
Creating a Christ-centered home involves engaging in practices that welcome the Holy Spirit into our daily lives. Anytime we do something that draws us closer to Christ, we are inviting the Holy Spirit to be present with us.
As we are reminded in the book of John, Christ gave us the Holy Spirit to serve as our comforter and guide. The Holy Spirit helps us to feel the love and peace of our Savior, making it crucial for our actions and choices to align with how Christ lived.
To invite the Spirit into our home and lives, we can immerse ourselves in the word of God through scriptures, General Conference talks from modern-day prophets and apostles, and religious books. Listening to uplifting Christian music, praying and conversing with our Heavenly Father, serving our family selflessly, and engaging in wholesome recreational activities are all powerful ways to welcome the Spirit.
These practices collectively foster an environment where the Holy Spirit can dwell, thereby helping us to cultivate a truly Christ-centered home.
Eliminate Contention
Creating a Christ-centered home involves an ongoing effort to align our actions with the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
One of the most impactful steps we can take is to eliminate contention.
The Book of Mormon, in 3 Nephi 11:29, reminds us that “the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention.” When anger and yelling invade our homes, the Spirit departs, and the peaceful, loving environment we strive for dissipates.
Reflecting on Christ’s life, we see His perfect love, patience, and kindness towards all he encountered. Even when correcting others, He did so with love but firmness.
While achieving this level of perfection is challenging for us as humans, being mindful and intentional about our interactions can significantly reduce contention and invite the Spirit into our homes.
In my own family, my husband and I have made a conscious effort to address our children with calmness rather than raising our voices. When stress or frustration arises, we take a moment to cool down before revisiting the issue.
This practice not only helps us remain composed but also sets an example for our children on how to handle conflicts constructively. By striving to speak with love and patience, we foster an atmosphere where relationships can flourish without anger and resentment.
Creating a Christ-centered home is a journey of continuous improvement, but by focusing on eliminating contention, we pave the way for a Spirit-filled environment that brings everyone closer to Christ.
Center Our Lives Around Christ
Creating a Christ-centered home begins with living a Christ-centered life.
It is essential to invite Christ into our daily existence if we want His presence to permeate our household.
As I discussed in my posts, “How to Build a Stronger Relationship with God” and “5 Tips to Strengthen Your Faith in the Lord,” there are numerous ways to integrate Christ into our everyday lives.
By consistently seeking Him in prayer, immersing ourselves in scripture, and reflecting on His teachings, we can ensure that our choices and actions align with His will. This alignment is not only transformative on a personal level but also extends to our families, fostering a home environment filled with happiness, peace, and divine guidance.
A Christ-centered home is a natural extension of a life devoted to Him, where every decision and interaction is infused with His love and wisdom.
Conclusion
In creating a Christ-centered home, the journey begins with intentionality and commitment to embodying the teachings of Christ in every aspect of daily life.
By displaying reminders of Christ throughout your home, you create visual anchors that constantly bring your focus back to His love and guidance.
Engaging in practices that welcome the Holy Spirit, such as prayer, scripture study, and acts of service, fosters a spiritual atmosphere where faith can flourish.
